Solanos, September 15, 2026- New York City has been seen as the capital of the world for quite some time. This metropolis was once a sleepy Dutch settlement on one of the world’s largest and most easily navigable natural harbors in the world. Today, it stands as one the global center of finance, culture, technology, innovation, media, fashion, architecture and more!
New York has, according to its residents, had a gradual morale decrease from 2001 that worsened and free fell into doom and despair post-COVID. There were heightened concerns of affordability for the middle class and gentrification of historic neighborhoods. These fears steepened for much of the 2010s and has led to exodus of many natives. These fears halted and reversed starting early 2026, gradually increasing morale even to this day. Zohran Mamdani was assumed into office January 1, 2026. The Knicks won the NBA title this year for the first time since 1973, triggering massive parades and camaraderie. Citizens have ran to social media to celebrate this year’s historic run for the city.

Besides the Knicks, Mamdani’s administration is said to be behind much of the positive changes. Mamdani has publicly spoken up against international crimes, proposed rent caps, and has challenged the United States’s current government, in ways that have satisfied New York residents. He plans on starting city-run price-controlled grocery stores. To most people, he seems like an all-around stand-up guy. His young age has been seen as a positive attribute, and many believe that this paves the way for younger people to hold public offices.
People from New York City have liked him so much, in fact, that there is a petition going around seeking to rename the city in his honor. They seek to rename the world renown city to Mamdanistan. Why this name you ask? This alludes to his Muslim identity as well as his perceived Arabic heritage. He is, in fact, Indian and Ugandan, which tends to catch many by surprise. Regardless of what he actually is, the general public has placed him in the “Muslim” box and have profiled him as much. Mamdanistan combines both his last name and the suffix -stan, commonly found in central and south Asian countries. The name is said to better suit the city as its demographics and values change. It was once New Amsterdam, then New York City after the duke of York (YAWN!). Maybe its time to welcome this new global perspective.
How far will New Yorkers go? Many speculate that the change is just the start. After the renaming to Mamdanistan, Arabic will begin being mandatory for grade school students. There are whispers that Sharia law will become officialized in the city by the end of 2027. Citizens have been said to hear calls to prayer throughout the day, mainly in Queens. Hijabis will now receive universal income, according to unfounded and absurd claims.
Mamdani has not received only praise, however. Many wealthy New Yorkers have fled or plan to flea his Socialist regime. Southerners who have never stepped foot in the city have had a lot to say on Facebook. Perhaps the election of a Muslim official is or was too woke, or morally incompatible with a largely Christian nation. His far-left economic policies have caused somewhat of an economic panic to capitalists. Not in terms of recession or profit loss, but more the popularization of Socialism.
